heh, Ceiling-fan25 and i had a long-running discussion about the craptastical timeline of the anime Conan-verse. there are multiple Christmases, other holidays etc. as well as multiple seasonal cues such as weather, school uniforms, insect ambient noise, plant foliage and suchforth.

but ACTUAL FACTUAL VISIBLE indicators to what the exact date is that specific day in that specific episode are NOT common! :D so when i found one back in the day... :> it was a YAHOO! moment. :D

presently i'm stuck on episode 1023, 24 because i just got burned out on Conan. i was watching upwards of 3 and 4 episodes every day from early March till ahh... not quite a month ago when i got stuck? i can't remember if it was late July or sometime in August...

Something I've learned form watching this is that getting the culprit is easy (most the time) but proving it was them is the hard part.

ok back to my previous inquest. sodium percarbonate. i've read various Luminol studies and whatnot in my career both in law enforcement and in college studying forensic investigations. plus more recent ones in the past decades. if you used OxyClean brand back in the 2000's... if i recall correctly when it was introduced in NorthAmerica... you COULD get a false Luminol test reaction on PERFECTLY CLEAN CLOTH THAT HAD NEVER BEEN EVEN NEAR BLOOD! even days after the item had been washed and dried. as long as the cloth had not been moistened soaked etc. again in clean water after laundering. thus removing the SP oxidizer residue. Luminol reacts to heme and other substances in blood via an oxidation process that produces the fluorescent reaction under black light. if you 'trick' the Luminol into oxidizing with another substance you can show there's blood on perfectly bloodless cloth. (and some other surfaces too but that's a whole other essay yet again). ;)

now, the efficacy of Luminol on actual blood-stained cloth after the cloth was soaked in 'plain water' (like that lake) is a slippery slope of billions of conditions un-repeatable in a lab. the 'rule of thumb' for most crime scene technicians is... screw Luminol on soaking wet cloth. send the whole damn couch to the lab. or the car. or the pants. or the curtains. or anything that got soaked in plain water.

that handkerchief is shit evidence, and Shinichi knows it. minor contact with Ayumi's hand and knee scrapes would barely survive a 1 hour long soak in cold clean water in a sink as to a reaction with Luminol. soaking for hours in a lake? fuuuuuckkk nuuuuu! as for DNA from Ayumi? fuuuuckkkk nuuuuuu! it ain't gonna be there anymore. poof like smoke in a hurricane.

i'd have to recheck the episodes but i think the blackmailing journalist was killed at 730am on Day TWO of the fishing tournament. Genta and Mitsu found the 'murder trick' board (with attached hanky) hours and hours later in the lake. Ayumi scraped her knee and hand on day ONE. if the murderer had kept her mouth shut the whole 'deduction show'... and waited for a lawyer... that hanky would have been destroyed as decent evidence. without the hanky, the board is just a board the two boys found in the lake with some fishing line attached. if the cops can't find the rock, and tie the murderer to the rock, the case is shit without the hanky.

even WITH the hanky permitted by an idiot judge after lengthy debate? how do you (the prosecuting attorney) tie the hanky: to the murderer, to Ayumi's scraped hand and knee, to the fishing line, to the board, to the bridge girder, and to the rock that fell on the journalist and brained him.

(WHERE IS THE ROCK!?) in the kitchen cooking? ;) smell that? smell what the Rock is cooking? smells like... murder... :D hahaha!

all of this ends up sending him tumbling down atop the train and therefore falling off the train onto the riverbank. you'll also have to prove where EXACTLY he landed on the train, the speed the train was going, and the centrifugal force required to tumble a corpse from the train onto the riverbank from that curve in the tracks. then you have to connect all THAT crap to: the murderer, her fishing rod, her line, her reel, her location on the opposite bank, the weather and light conditions at the time, the exact distance the lure traveled from her position to the hanky, and her ability to cast said lure into the hanky. then you would have to prove she could PERFECTLY yank on the board to make the rock fall on the guy's head. she's pulling on the hanky LATERALLY not perpendicular to the board and rock. she's on the other side of the lake. she's pulling the board towards her. unless she's a god-tier physicist, without months of practice setting up this 'trick' she's gonna screw it up. the rock's gonna miss.

Most of the culprits in Conan are killing people out of emotional stress. All they need is a little shove and they'll cry you a river, or in funnier cases act out and implicate themselves.
Though skill plays an important role in these deductions, sometimes I think detectives are lucky

too true too true. if i had these detectives' "godlike skill at getting a confession" i would have NEVER left law enforcement and i would have a case closure rate of 80% or higher. those last 20% are for the cases where i couldn't find a culprit, or they had successfully fled my jurisdiction for one with no extradition back to my jurisdiction. :D
